the myths debusted!

It’s official… we have truly entered the age of the bralette! This latest underwear look is everywhere – from the high street to the high end, worn by teens and gorgeous grans alike, and for either its trend or comfort appeal (often both!)

We’ve received so many questions from you about bralettes: Can booby girls wear bralettes? Will a bralette give you support? Which style wins the bralette vs bra debate? What size should you go for?

So we decided it was time we weighed in on the big bralette debate. We hope you find our thoughts helpful!

What is a bralette?

Bralettes started life in the athleisure world and have been around on the high street for a couple of years now – as they’re a relatively new thing, there’s no absolute definition. It’s fair to say that most of them have an element of the “unstructured” about them – at least in terms of look – but otherwise they range from non-wired to underwired, from the cotton crop top to the lovely lace style that’s perfect for peeking out of the top (or back!) of your clothes – just too gorgeous to keep under wraps! In short, bralettes come in lots of guises, and in all shapes and sizes.

Why and where would I wear a bralette?

We did a quick poll of big boobed women on Twitter, and those of you that responded fell into two camps – 24% would wear a bralette purely for its comfort factor, whereas 43% of you are drawn to the look of it and would wear it to be seen, giving a nod to the ‘underwear as outerwear’ vibe we know is having a bit of a moment right now.

In terms of places you’d be likely to wear a bralette, 38% of you said you’d probably wear one to sleep or lounge in, and 24% of you wanted to wear it day in, day out, instead of your everyday bra.     ~~~ Bravissimo

But will a bralette give us the girls enough support?

That’s the million dollar question and, like with a bra, it really depends on soooo many factors – what level of support you’re looking for, what you’re planning to do in it (is it for everyday wear or more for chilling at home?) as well as the unique bralette in question as all of them do something different for your boobs…

So, should I ditch my bra for a bralette?

Here at Allure we’ve always been about giving you options, so you’re free to choose what style, shape and colour you want. We’d never tell you what you should wear – only you know what works for you and your boobs!

We’re embracing the bralette trend because it means us Allure girls have got a wider range of styles to choose from, and that can never be a bad thing! We’re continuing to source and develop options that work for big boobed women – watch this space, and keep telling us what you think about our bralettes because we can’t do this without you. As always, if you ever need any advice about this style (or others) – contact us using the links below; we’d be super happy to hear from you.

Is there anything we’ve missed?
