feel uplifted

Our guide to bridal lingerie

If you’re tying the knot, we’ve got two things we’d like to say. Firstly, congratulations! Secondly, please don’t leave getting your underwear for your wedding day to the last minute! What you wear under your wedding dress is crucial for enabling you to look and feel fantastic on your big day. The last thing you want to be thinking about is your bra and whether everything is going to stay in place!

You probably have some ideas about what to wear under your wedding dress already, so here are our tips to make sure you feel uplifted and fabulous on your big day, as well as getting the look you want.

“Plan ahead and try before you buy”

Many bridal dresses are now designed with integral bra support so depending on what you choose to wear, you may find that you don’t actually need to wear a bra at all (not a situation we Bravissimo girls are usually familiar with!).

However, many Bravissimo girls will need to wear a bra and if that applies to you, we recommend that you think about your choice of style from the start so you don’t have any last-minute panics trying to find something that works.

Different bras not only give various shapes but can also position your boobs quite differently and trying to find a bra that works under lace, sheer fabrics, strapless and other styles of wedding dress isn’t always easy. What’s ideal is starting with your bra so you can try different dresses with it and marry (sorry!) your underwear and outerwear so they are a great partnership.

Plunge Bras

These are good for wearing with a plunging neckline and showing off a bit of cleavage – why not highlight what for many of us is one of our best assets?!

If you like the idea of a strapless dress or top, make sure you find the right strapless bra or basque before you commit yourself. It goes without saying that a strapless bra is never going to be as supportive as a bra with straps but, that said, there are some really good options for many Allure girls (though sadly, nothing above a J cup yet).

A seam-free bra should be invisible under your outfit and are a good choice if you’re opting for a fitted, smooth or sheer dress or top.

Some brides choose to match their underwear to the colour of their dress but the choice is yours. Depending on the material of your dress and your skin tone, a white or ivory bra could actually be quite visible so a colour that’s a closer match to your skin tone may be a better choice, especially under delicate or lace dresses.

Some women love the confidence that shapewear gives them and wear it every day. For others, it comes into its own when you’re wearing more fitted or sheer styles and you want a smoother silhouette. It may not be the most glamourous underwear for your big day but it’s how you feel that’s important. If it helps you feel great, what’s not to love about that?
